Here is my illustration final for my Barco chiquito :) I'm not sure I am 100% happy with it, I had originally envisioned it being traditional with a use of fabric and acrylic but it was my first time experimenting with mixed media and the results were not quite what I expected. I ended up scanning it in and correcting a lot of value/color issues in Photoshop. Regardless, it's not a bad piece, it's just not what I had in mind.

Business Cards!
Here is my first design for a set of business cards...it will probably end up changing later on but for now I like them :) The design was taken from a ballerina sequential illustration I did junior year that I had forgotten about.

Mexican rhyme sketch
Here is my very last illustration project for the semester and its an illustration of a Mexican rhyme for children. There are many I remember from my childhood but I decided to pick this one called "El barco chiquito" because I could do something simple and fun with it. For the final I am thinking of using fabric as well as paint and photoshop for the text and it is due next week!!! :S

Zbrush Toy project
Here is my latest zbrush project which was to sculpt a toy so I went with a couple of clown marionettes. Originally I had planned to sculpt bowling pin-shaped mexican luchadores but this seemed much more appealing to me. Enjoy!

New Patterns
So the skull pattern wasn't working for me for several reasons and I decided to go with something that was more me, and something that I would personally buy :) The first is a design for a dog carrier bag and the second is a design for a beach/summer bag. The pattern goes on the inside while the cone is just a simple illustration on the outside.

The Animal Alphabet!
Here is the final poster for my Animal Alphabet! This project was very enjoyable and tedious too but I am really happy with the results :)
And here is a layout of what the cards+block would look like. I am not doing this for all 26 animals/letters but I just wanted to show the many different ways the animals can be applied to different surfaces and formats and still remain cohesive.

Animal ABC's wip
Here is my animal ABC's poster and there will be alphabet game cards and a block for each animal+letter! We have 3 weeks for this project and it will be due in a week. A lot of work went into the animals because doing cute and accurate-looking animals is not as easy as it looks, then doing the vectors in illustrator and I am still working on color and value. I am hoping to add some texturing or decorative pattern to each background but we'll see..I don't want to make it TOO busy :) hope you like it!!
UPDATED-still in progress
Got rid of the text because I am still playing with fonts, I wasn't really liking the one I had before..and I added textures from free texture/pattern websites. A couple I made myself :)

Mexican Street + Final Birds in the cage :)
This is a piece I have been working on and off for about 3 weeks now. I wanted to keep the palette very colorful and very bright because those are the colors you would normally see in Mexico. I visited a town called Taxco over the summer and from the photo reference I composed this image, added the children, pinata, and other festivities, to make it more of an illustration. Had lots of fun and really enjoyed working on it although I am still waiting to hear back from my teacher with some suggestions for it..so its not final at this point.
The other one I did finish is the bird cage one. It started as a drawing on my sketchbook and evolved to this. I was originally gonna use the design for a planner but I chose to go with the flowers instead (see other blog posts). So in the end I just decided to make this simple illustration, also based on the poem The Soul Bird, which is written as a background for the piece.

Drugs, Knives and Midwives- color study
I came up with this image for an editorial illustration for Utne magazine on unnecessary c-sections and all the risks that come along with it. My idea was to have a pop top on top of a woman's belly to simulate a can opener which is pretty much what would be ideal for doctors to do, open take out and close. This is just the color study.
